Surrey Police Service announced that 20-year-old Prabhjot Singh was removed from Canada as a result of an immigration investigation over extortion charges. Singh, an Indian national, was suspected of extortion-related criminal activity in early 2026. He was later arrested, with his information being shared to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) by the police.
SPS released his photograph, appealing to the public for information on his associates and activities while he was in Canada.
The statement read, “SPS is releasing this photo of Prabhjot Singh after determining that disclosure is necessary to assist with ongoing police investigations. SPS hopes that the public release of this image of Prabhjot Singh prompts additional witnesses, victims, or associates to come forward with relevant information regarding the activities of Prabhjot Singh. Any information provided by the public or associates can assist police in gathering information on the people and potential criminal networks involved in violent extortions.”
SPS Chief Constable Norm Lipinski said, “SPS continues to work with our law enforcement partners with the shared objective of tackling the inter-jurisdictional and national components of extortion. We remain steadfastly committed to our policing colleagues and to our community in combatting the extortion crisis.”
CBSA had reported through a statement in March that it had opened 372 immigration investigations, and 70 removal orders had been issued for various inadmissibility grounds, with 35 removals being enforced till then.
The agency said it was working with law enforcement partners through joint task forces, including the British Columbia Extortion Task Force and Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team, along with joint efforts with local police in Ontario and across the country.
When police suspect persons who may be violating immigration laws, it is standard protocol to contact CBSA, which conducts investigations that can lead to immigration enforcement action, including deportation.
CBSA officially started investigating immigration enforcement cases linked to extortion in the Pacific and Prairie regions in August 2025. The operation had expanded to the Greater Toronto region by November 2025.
Singh joins Arshdeep Singh and Sukhnaaz Singh Sandhu, in the list of Indian nationals, who faced deportation as a result of CBSA’s crackdown on extortion-related violence and crime.
