Fans of Legally Blonde are finally set to revisit the world of Elle Woods—but this time, they’re going back to where it all began. Elle: From the World of Legally Blonde, the much-awaited prequel series to the beloved 2001 film, is all set to premiere globally on Prime Video on July 1, 2026.
Created by Laura Kittrell and executive produced by Reese Witherspoon through her Hello Sunshine banner, the coming-of-age comedy explores Elle Woods’ teenage years long before she became Harvard Law School’s most unforgettable student. Packed with humor, heart, and plenty of ’90s nostalgia, the series promises to introduce fans to a younger version of the iconic character while staying true to the charm that made Legally Blonde a pop culture phenomenon.
A New Chapter in Elle Woods’ Journey
Set in 1995, Elle follows 16-year-old Elle Woods as her seemingly perfect life is turned upside down. After an incident involving her father’s career forces the family to relocate from sunny Los Angeles to gloomy Seattle, Elle finds herself struggling to fit into a completely different environment.
Surrounded by classmates who don’t understand her bubbly personality or love for pink, Elle must navigate the challenges of high school while staying true to herself. As she faces friendships, rivalries, and personal setbacks, the series explores the experiences that shape her confidence, resilience, and strong sense of justice years before her famous journey to Harvard.
Meet the Cast
Leading the series is newcomer Lexi Minetree, who takes on the challenging role of young Elle Woods, originally made famous by Reese Witherspoon. After a nationwide casting search, Minetree was chosen to bring the beloved character’s teenage years to life.
She is joined by an impressive supporting cast that includes June Diane Raphael as Elle’s image-conscious mother Eva Woods and Tom Everett Scott as her supportive father Wyatt Woods. Chandler Kinney stars as Kimberly, one of Elle’s classmates, while Zac Looker plays Dustin, a socially conscious student who often challenges those around him.
The series also features recurring appearances by familiar television faces including James Van Der Beek and David Burtka, adding even more excitement for viewers.
Experienced Creative Team Behind the Series
The show is led by co-showrunners Laura Kittrell and Caroline Dries, while director Jason Moore, best known for Pitch Perfect, directs the opening episodes and serves as an executive producer. Additional episodes are directed by Pete Chatmon, Sammi Cohen, and Stacie Passon, bringing together a talented creative team with experience across comedy and drama.
Already Renewed for Season 2
Even before its premiere, Amazon MGM Studios has shown tremendous confidence in the project by renewing Elle for a second season. The early renewal reflects strong expectations for the prequel and highlights the enduring popularity of the Legally Blonde franchise more than two decades after the original film’s release.
With its blend of humor, nostalgia, heartfelt storytelling, and a fresh perspective on one of Hollywood’s most beloved characters, Elle is shaping up to be one of this year’s biggest streaming releases. Whether you’re a longtime Legally Blonde fan or discovering Elle Woods for the first time, the series promises an entertaining and inspiring coming-of-age journey.
