‘I Wanted to Name Him Ram Khan’: Sohail Khan Reveals Why Son Nirvaan Almost Had a Completely Different Name

Actor-filmmaker Sohail Khan recently shared a heartwarming story about his eldest son Nirvaan’s name, revealing that he had originally planned to call him Ram Khan before a touching moment with his then-wife, Seema Sajdeh, changed everything.

The revelation came during an episode of the reality show Alliance, where Sohail and Seema reunited and spoke candidly about their family, co-parenting journey, and the values they have passed on to their sons, Nirvaan and Yohaan.

A Promise Before Their First Child Was Born

The conversation began after fellow contestant Aly Goni praised Nirvaan and Yohaan for being polite and well-mannered. Reflecting on the early days of parenthood, Sohail recalled a playful agreement he and Seema made while expecting their first child.

“When Seema was carrying Nirvaan, we jokingly decided that if we had a boy, I would choose his name, and if we had a girl, Seema would name her,” Sohail shared.

Confident that he would get to name his son if it was a boy, Sohail had already settled on a name that held special meaning for him.

Why Sohail Chose ‘Ram Khan’

Sohail revealed that he wanted to name his son Ram Khan, explaining that the choice reflected the secular values of their family and their interfaith marriage.

“Mera yeh tha, ki main apne bete ka naam Ram Khan rakhna chahta tha. We are very secular that way,” he said.

According to Sohail, the name symbolized unity beyond religious identities and represented the inclusive environment in which the Khan family has always believed. Had his original plan gone ahead, his eldest son would have grown up with one of the most unique names in Bollywood.

The Moment Everything Changed

However, Sohail’s carefully planned choice disappeared in an instant after Nirvaan was born. Recalling the emotional moment inside the hospital, Sohail said that when Seema regained consciousness after delivery, she softly uttered a name that immediately won his heart.

“When Seema came into consciousness after giving birth, she had also thought of a name in her mind. The doctor said it’s a boy, so I entered the room. She looked at me she was a little drowsy and said, ‘How’s Nirvaan doing?'” he remembered.

The simplicity and warmth with which Seema spoke the name left a lasting impression on Sohail.

“She said it in a way I didn’t want to change after that,” he added.

Without any argument or discussion, Sohail decided to let go of his original choice and embrace the name that had come so naturally to Seema.

A Name That Perfectly Matched His Personality

Looking back today, Sohail believes it was the right decision. He shared that the meaning of Nirvaan which signifies ultimate peace, liberation, and inner calm beautifully reflects his son’s personality.

According to the actor, Nirvaan has grown into a composed, peaceful, and grounded young man, making the name feel almost destined. The touching anecdote offered fans a rare glimpse into a deeply personal family moment and highlighted the mutual respect that Sohail and Seema shared despite eventually going their separate ways.

While “Ram Khan” may have made headlines for its symbolic significance, Sohail believes that Nirvaan turned out to be the perfect name—one chosen not by planning, but by an unforgettable moment of emotion that neither parent wanted to change.
