Mumbai News: Five people, including two children, were injured after a gas leak from a cylinder pipe triggered a flare-up at a hostel on the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay campus in Powai, Mumbai, on Thursday night. Officials said all five injured persons were stable following the incident.

The incident was reported at around 10:25 pm at Hostel No. 6 on the IIT Bombay campus. According to officials, the flare-up occurred after gas leaked from a cylinder pipe, leaving five people injured.

The injured were identified as Ansh Ahirwar, 12, Tahjib Aalam, 9, Ishwar Singh, 37, Shivkumar Singh, 34, and Anilkumar Yadav, 23.

Four Injured Shifted to Kasturba Hospital

Following the incident, the injured were taken to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar for medical treatment.

An official said four of the injured were subsequently shifted to Kasturba Hospital, another civic-run medical facility located in Chinchpokli. The fifth injured person remains admitted to Rajawadi Hospital.

Officials confirmed that all five victims were stable. Further details regarding the extent of their injuries and the circumstances surrounding the gas leak were awaited.

Police and Civic Teams Mobilised

Police personnel and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation staff were mobilised following the incident. Authorities responded to the situation and coordinated the medical assistance provided to the injured.

The incident has raised concerns about gas cylinder pipe safety and the precautions required to prevent accidental leaks in residential and hostel facilities.
