Just two days later, on June 27, tragedy struck. Bhagyaraj reportedly suffered a massive cardiac arrest at his residence in Chennai. He was immediately rushed to Apollo Hospital on Greams Road, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. He was 73. The shocking turn of events has left fans struggling to process how a man who appeared energetic and full of life only days earlier is no longer with them.

Following the heartbreaking news, clips from the Goa wedding quickly resurfaced online. The videos show Bhagyaraj warmly interacting with some of Indian cinema’s biggest stars, including Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh and longtime friend Sarathkumar. Dressed elegantly and wearing his trademark smile, Bhagyaraj appeared relaxed as he exchanged conversations and posed for photographs with fellow celebrities.

Among those paying tribute was actor Sarathkumar, who expressed the disbelief shared across the industry. Remembering their recent meeting, he said the news came as a profound shock because they had been chatting happily at the wedding only two days earlier.

State Honours for a Cinema Legend

In recognition of his immense contribution to Tamil cinema, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced that Bhagyaraj would be laid to rest with full State honours.

Political leaders, actors, directors and countless admirers have gathered at his Chennai residence to pay their final respects. He is survived by his wife, former actress Poornima Bhagyaraj, daughter Saranya and actor-son Shanthanu Bhagyaraj.
