Pakistani security forces thwarted a major terror attempt on a Rangers headquarters in Karachi on Saturday killing six terrorists and detaining one in wounded condition, sources said. Four Rangers men were killed in the ferocious battle and the assailants were halted before they could do any further damage to the facility.
The attack started when terrorists slammed a truck into the outside fence of the paramilitary base in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar district and then stormed the facility with firearms, reports said. Security forces reacted promptly and engaged the assailants in a protracted exchange of fire leading to neutralisation of all the six insurgents. One assailant was injured and taken alive into custody, officials added.
Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a group of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed the assault, a rare claimed strike in Karachi in recent years. Authorities have not yet given a detailed formal statement, but the event has once again aroused fears about extremist threats in Pakistan’s biggest metropolis and its critical security facilities.
The tone of a news write-up should be accurate and tight. It should focus on the incident, the number of casualties, the reaction of security personnel and the claim of responsibility.
