Twisha Sharma Case Takes New Turn After Burglary at Retired Judge’s House

Twisha Sharma Case Takes New Turn After Burglary at Retired Judge’s House

A late-night burglary at the Bhopal residence of retired district judge Giribala Singh has added a new twist to an already high-profile case that has been under national scrutiny. While police are treating the incident as a case of theft, the fact that the targeted house is at the centre of the ongoing Twisha Sharma death investigation has sparked widespread speculation.

The burglary took place around 2 am on Saturday at Singh’s residence in Katara Hills. According to police, three masked men entered the property after breaking open the rear door on the first floor. At the time of the incident, the house was largely vacant, with only Giribala Singh’s elder son and another relative present inside. The break-in went unnoticed until Sunday morning, when the family discovered that rooms had been ransacked and valuables were missing.

The suspects, however, came dangerously close to being caught. During routine night patrol, a police “Charlie” vehicle spotted three masked men behaving suspiciously near a vegetable market, barely 300 metres from the Katara Hills Police Station. When officers attempted to question them, a brief scuffle broke out. The suspects managed to overpower the policemen and escape under the cover of darkness, but not before abandoning a bag they had been carrying.

The recovered bag has now become a crucial piece of evidence. Inside, police found silver bowls along with a bundle of documents believed to have been stolen during the burglary. Investigators are currently matching the recovered papers with the family’s records to determine whether they belong solely to Giribala Singh’s residence or if the accused targeted multiple locations on the same night.

According to the initial complaint, the burglars escaped with gold jewellery and several important documents. The exact value of the stolen property is yet to be determined, as family members continue to prepare a detailed inventory of the missing items.

What makes this burglary particularly significant is the history attached to the property. The residence is the same house where Twisha Sharma, wife of advocate Samarth Singh, was found dead in a case that led to allegations of dowry harassment and suspicious death. Following public outrage, the investigation was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Recently, CBI officials carried out a detailed reconstruction of the incident at the residence, reportedly using an 80-kg dummy as part of their forensic analysis.

Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh remain in judicial custody after a special court extended their remand in connection with the case. Their legal troubles have kept the property under constant public attention, making the burglary even more intriguing.

Despite speculation linking the theft to the ongoing CBI investigation, local police have urged caution. Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Kashyap said investigators are examining CCTV footage from the house and neighbouring buildings to identify the suspects and trace their escape route. At present, police say there is no forensic evidence suggesting the burglary was connected to the Twisha Sharma investigation.

For now, authorities continue to treat it as a standard burglary while keeping all possibilities open. Whether the theft was a routine crime or something more closely tied to one of Madhya Pradesh’s most closely watched cases will become clearer as the investigation progresses.
