Continuing the outreach initiative under the previous interim administration led by Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh has sent 12 senior officials to Pakistan for a mid-career training programme on Monday. It marks the first structured training for senior Bangladeshi bureaucrats in Pakistan in nearly 50 years.

Dhaka-based sources told the Economic Times that senior officers, with the ranks of additional secretaries and joint secretaries, would undergo training at the Civil Services Academy in Lahore.

The officers were selected from the ministries of commerce, public administration, home affairs, and the cabinet division. The programme, hosted at the Pakistan Administrative Service campus in Lahore, aims to enhance the governance of the ministries and give Islamabad greater access to Dhaka’s administrative system.

The training programme is fully funded by Pakistan, with no financial contribution from Bangladesh.

It is designed to provide a platform for comparative learning between the Islamabad and Dhaka administrative systems. According to Bangladeshi media, the programme is expected to cover innovation in public administration, policy design, governance reforms, and economic management.

The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan shared the occasion on Facebook, welcoming the officials and outlining the objectives of the programme.

“A delegation of senior civil servants from Bangladesh has arrived in Pakistan to participate in a two-week Executive Leadership Training Programme jointly organised by HEC and the Civil Services Academy (CSA). The delegation was warmly received in Karachi by officials of HEC and CSA upon arrival. The flagship programme aims to strengthen institutional linkages, promote capacity building, and enhance knowledge exchange in public administration between Pakistan and Bangladesh. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to deeper bilateral cooperation and mutual learning between the two countries’ public sector institutions,” the post said.

The diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh have strenghtened over the years, since the expulsion of Sheikh Hasina through weeks of violent, student-led protests against the government. There has also been significant revival in trade and connectivity between both countries.
