Ukrainian authorities have reported that one person had been killed in the eastern region of Dnipropetrovsk after Russia resumed strikes on Kyiv after a three-day ceasefire.

Head of Kyiv’s military administration Tymur Tkachenko posted on Telegram, “Enemy UAVs are currently over Kyiv. Please stay safe until the alert is cleared.”

Authorities told residents to remain in shelters while its air defences operated in the area.

Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the regional military administration, wrote on Telegram that the strikes killed a man and injured a woman in the Synelnykove area in the Dnipropetrovsk region. He also added that another strike elsewhere in Dnipropetrovsk injured three people.

The Russian military, on the other side, claimed it shot down 27 Ukrainian drones after the truce ended.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said in a statement, “Air defence duty assets intercepted and destroyed 27 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles over the Belgorod, Voronezh, and Rostov regions from midnight to 7:00 am Moscow time.”

U.S President Donald Trump had announced a three-day ceasefire on Friday, ahead of Russia’s annual World War II Victory Day celebrations, and said he hoped it would mark “the beginning of the end” of the long-standing war that began on 2022. However, both countries have accused each other of violating the truce by attacking civilians.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his daily address on Monday that fighting with Russia was ongoing despite the truce and accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of not wanting to end the war.

Zelenskyy said in the last hours of the ceasefire, “Today there was no silence at the front, there was fighting. We have recorded all of this.”

While Trump’s announcement of the ceasefire had raised hopes of an end to the ongoing conflict, the possibility of deeper negotiations took a backseat due to the ongoing war with Iran in West Asia.
