The mother of a pregnant teenager in the United States, who was killed in a Range Rover Velar crash in Ohio, along with her unborn child, appealed to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport the Indian man behind the wheel. Tarsem Singh, aged 33, was living in the United States illegally while pursuing 17-year-old Ashlee Holmes, leading to her pregnancy.

Police reported that Ashlee was a passenger in a Range Rover Velar when the vehicle crashed on February 16. Singh reportedly failed to stop for law enforcement and led the officers on a high-speed chase, reaching a speed of about 100 miles per hour before striking a Jeep. Ashlee, who was ejected from the car after it crashed, succumbed to her injuries, also leading to the death of her unborn child.

Singh was indicted on multiple felony charges, including involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, and aggrevated vehicular homicide.

The Department of Homeland Security said he had entered the country illegally in February 2017 through the southern border in California and was arrested before a judge ordered his release on a bond of $1 million.

Meanwhile, ICE launched a detainer against Singh, under which, he is required to remain in custody and could face deportation proceedings following the ruling of the criminal case. A jury trial is scheduled for August 17-21.

Holmes’ mother, Annette Holmes said she did not want Singh to remain in the United States.

“Nobody should ever deserve to die while pregnant with their first kid,” she told Newsweek magazine “I’m OK with him being kicked out of the country permanently. We came to find out he came here illegally at first. They can send him wherever he is best off because I don’t want him in the States no more.”

Relatives told the outlet that Ashlee tried to leave the relationship several times but was not successful.
