The wait is finally over for Mirzapur fans. One of India’s most successful web series is now making a historic leap to the big screen, and the newly released teaser has already created massive excitement online. Packed with familiar faces, fresh twists and a larger cinematic scale, Mirzapur The Movie promises to take the beloved franchise in an entirely new direction.
What makes this project even more special is that it marks the first major Indian web series to receive a full-fledged theatrical adaptation. Produced by Excel Entertainment in association with Amazon MGM Studios, the film aims to expand the gritty universe that audiences have followed for years.
The biggest surprise comes from the film’s storyline. Instead of continuing the events of the web series, Mirzapur The Movie is being developed as a prequel. The story will explore the early years of Purvanchal’s criminal empire, giving fans a chance to witness how some of the franchise’s most iconic characters began their journeys.
This creative decision also allows several beloved characters to return, including those whose stories had already ended in the series. Pankaj Tripathi reprises his role as the ruthless Kaleen Bhaiya, while Ali Fazal returns as Guddu Pandit. Fans will also see Divyenndu back as the unforgettable Munna Bhaiya, alongside Shweta Tripathi as Golu Gupta and Rasika Dugal as Beena Tripathi.
Perhaps the biggest talking point, however, is the casting of Jitendra Kumar as Bablu Pandit. The character was originally portrayed by Vikrant Massey in the first season of the web series. Jitendra, widely loved for his performances in Panchayat and Kota Factory, now takes over one of the franchise’s most popular roles. The casting has already sparked discussions among fans, many of whom are eager to see how he brings his own interpretation to the character.
Apart from the returning cast, the film also welcomes several new additions. Ravi Kishan, Mohit Malik and Sonal S. Chauhan will play key characters, introducing fresh power dynamics into the already unpredictable world of Mirzapur. The teaser hints at larger action sequences, intense rivalries and a cinematic scale far beyond what viewers have seen in the streaming series.
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Mirzapur creator Puneet Krishna, the film also expands beyond the familiar landscapes of Purvanchal, with portions reportedly set against the backdrop of Rajasthan. The movie is scheduled to release in theatres on September 4, 2026, in both Hindi and Telugu.
With Munna Bhaiya’s return, Kaleen Bhaiya’s rise to power and Jitendra Kumar stepping into a fan-favourite role, Mirzapur The Movie is shaping up to be one of the biggest Bollywood releases of the year. If the teaser is any indication, the bhaukaal is only getting bigger.
