Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has added another remarkable achievement to his legacy, this time far beyond the world of cinema. His Knight Riders Group (KRG) has officially inaugurated the Knight Riders Cricket Ground in Pomona, Los Angeles, California, marking a historic moment for world cricket. With this milestone, the Knight Riders Group has become the first global cricket franchise to build and own an international-standard cricket stadium, setting a new benchmark for franchise cricket worldwide.

The state-of-the-art venue has been developed in partnership with Major League Cricket (MLC) at the Fairplex in Pomona. More than just a cricket ground, the facility represents a long-term investment in the future of the sport in the United States, where cricket has witnessed rapid growth over the past few years. The timing of the project could not have been more significant. Cricket is set to return to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, making its first appearance at the Olympics since 1900. With the Knight Riders Cricket Ground built according to the International Cricket Council (ICC) accreditation standards, the venue is expected to emerge as one of the leading candidates to host Olympic cricket matches.

This strategic move not only strengthens the Knight Riders’ presence in American cricket but also positions the franchise at the heart of one of the biggest sporting events in the world. If selected as an Olympic venue, the stadium would become one of cricket’s most iconic destinations, introducing millions of new fans to the game.

Designed as a world-class sporting and entertainment complex, the Knight Riders Cricket Ground offers much more than a traditional cricket stadium. The venue features an international-quality turf wicket, advanced floodlighting systems, modern dressing rooms, premium training facilities, luxury hospitality suites, fan-friendly concession areas, and ample parking space.

Speaking after the unveiling, Shah Rukh Khan described the project as the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream. Sharing his excitement on social media, the actor welcomed cricket lovers from around the world to the new stadium and said the venue was built not only for professional cricket but also as a place where families and sports fans could come together to celebrate the game.

He also thanked several key stakeholders, including BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, the International Cricket Council (ICC), and Star Sports Head Sanjog Gupta, for supporting the ambitious initiative and helping turn the vision into reality.

The new stadium also provides a permanent home for the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR), one of the franchises competing in Major League Cricket. Until now, teams in the league have largely depended on shared venues or temporary facilities. Having a dedicated home ground gives LAKR a significant competitive advantage while helping establish a stronger fan base in Southern California.

The franchise is set to play its first competitive home fixture at the stadium against reigning Major League Cricket champions Washington Freedom, marking the beginning of a new chapter for professional cricket in Los Angeles.

The stadium is another major step in the Knight Riders Group’s rapidly expanding global cricket empire. Over the years, the organization has successfully built one of the strongest franchise networks in the sport, with teams across multiple international leagues.

The Knight Riders portfolio includes the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League, the highly successful Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the Caribbean Premier League, the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR)in the UAE’s ILT20, and now the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) in Major League Cricket.

Unlike most franchise owners who primarily focus on team operations, Shah Rukh Khan and the Knight Riders Group have taken a pioneering step by investing directly in sports infrastructure. Owning an international-standard stadium gives the franchise greater control over player development, fan engagement, commercial opportunities, and the long-term growth of cricket in North America.

As cricket continues its expansion into new markets, the Knight Riders Cricket Ground stands as a symbol of the sport’s global ambitions. It is not just a stadium it is a statement that cricket is ready to thrive beyond its traditional boundaries. With Los Angeles preparing to welcome Olympic cricket in 2028, Shah Rukh Khan’s latest venture could play a defining role in shaping the future of the game in the United States and inspiring a new generation of cricket fans.
