Ranveer Singh’s latest appearance in Mumbai left fans and paparazzi equally intrigued. The actor, known for his energetic personality and bold fashion choices, stepped out dressed entirely in black, covering his face with a cap, sunglasses and a mask. His unusual look immediately sparked curiosity, especially after he remained silent when photographers jokingly asked, “Baba naraaz ho kya?” Instead of responding, Ranveer simply smiled behind the mask and drove away. The mystery, however, appears to have a much bigger reason behind it.

According to reports, Ranveer is preparing for one of the most ambitious films of his career, a post-apocalyptic zombie survival thriller titled Pralay. To avoid revealing details of his physical transformation before filming begins, the actor has reportedly chosen to keep his appearance under wraps. In an industry where first looks often become viral moments, maintaining secrecy has become an effective way of building anticipation, and Ranveer’s latest outing has only intensified excitement surrounding the project.

Directed by Jai Mehta, who is known for co-directing acclaimed projects like Scam 1992 and Lootere, Pralay is expected to push Bollywood into a genre that has rarely been explored on such a grand scale. Unlike earlier Hindi films that treated zombies with comedy or satire, this project is being developed as a serious survival thriller set in a dystopian world.

The story reportedly unfolds in a devastated Mumbai following a deadly zombie outbreak. At its heart is an emotionally charged tale of a married couple struggling to survive as society collapses around them. While the film promises large-scale action and visual spectacle, its emotional core is expected to focus on relationships, fear and the instinct to survive against impossible odds.

One of the biggest talking points surrounding Pralay is its reported budget of ₹300 crore. Such a massive investment reflects the makers’ confidence in creating a cinematic experience that can compete with international productions. Reports suggest that an international technical crew has been assembled to design the film’s action sequences, visual effects and world-building, signalling an attempt to raise the benchmark for genre filmmaking in India.

Adding to the excitement is the possibility of South Indian actress Kalyani Priyadarshan making her Bollywood debut with the film. She is currently said to be in discussions for the female lead opposite Ranveer. If confirmed, the casting would bring together two actors from different film industries for a project that aims to appeal to audiences across India.

The screenplay has reportedly been written by Jai Mehta and Vishal Kapoor, with principal photography scheduled to begin in September 2026. A significant portion of the film will be shot in Australia, where large-scale sets and advanced production facilities are expected to help bring the dystopian world to life.

Interestingly, Ranveer Singh is not only leading the film as its central star but is also backing the project as a co-producer through his production banner, Ma Kasam Films. His involvement behind the scenes suggests that he sees Pralay as more than just another acting assignment. It reflects a willingness to invest in fresh storytelling and genres that Bollywood has traditionally approached with caution.

Reports also indicate that after completing the extensive Australian shooting schedule, the actor plans to take a brief paternity break before returning to finish the remaining portions of the film.

Beyond the excitement surrounding its cast and scale, Pralay represents a significant moment for Hindi cinema. Bollywood has experimented with horror, fantasy and science fiction in recent years, but a high-budget zombie survival drama led by a mainstream superstar is largely unexplored territory. If executed well, the film could open doors for more ambitious genre-driven storytelling in the industry.

For now, Ranveer Singh’s masked appearance has achieved exactly what it was meant to do—create intrigue without revealing too much. As audiences wait for the official first look, Pralay is already emerging as one of the most anticipated Bollywood projects currently in development.
