Prime Minister Narendra Modi will distribute more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly recruited youth at the 20th Rozgar Mela on September 19. The Prime Minister will hand over the appointment letters through video conferencing at 12:30 pm and will also address the newly selected candidates joining various government organisations.

The Rozgar Mela will be organised simultaneously at 45 locations across the country. The programme is part of the Centre’s ongoing recruitment initiative aimed at creating employment opportunities for young people and increasing their participation in India’s development journey.

Appointees to Join Key Departments

The newly selected candidates will join several ministries, departments and government organisations under the Government of India. Major departments expected to receive recruits include the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services and Ministry of Defence.

The recruitment drive covers vacancies across different categories of central government services. The selected youth will take up roles in administrative, technical, operational and support-related positions, depending on their respective departments and selection processes.

Officials said the event will connect newly appointed candidates from multiple regions through a common virtual programme. Candidates attending the employment fairs at different locations will be able to listen to the Prime Minister’s address during the event.

Total Appointment Letters to Reach 12.75 Lakh

With the 20th edition of the Rozgar Mela, the total number of appointment letters distributed under the initiative will reach around 12.75 lakh. The government has been organising these employment fairs in phases to provide appointment letters to candidates selected for jobs in central ministries, departments and associated organisations.

The initiative began in October 2022 and has since become one of the government’s major direct-recruitment campaigns. In several previous editions, thousands of selected candidates received appointment letters at one time through physical events and video conferencing.

The 19th Rozgar Mela was held on May 23, 2026, during which more than 51,000 appointment letters were distributed to newly selected candidates. The upcoming event will be the 20th edition of the nationwide recruitment programme.

Focus on Youth Employment

The Rozgar Mela reflects the government’s stated focus on employment generation and enabling greater participation of youth in public service. Through the programme, selected candidates are being inducted into departments that play a major role in public administration, revenue collection, rail operations, national security, healthcare delivery and financial services.

For many candidates, receiving an appointment letter marks the beginning of a long-awaited government career after clearing competitive recruitment examinations and completing selection procedures. The event is also expected to provide encouragement to young aspirants preparing for government jobs across the country.

Government employment remains a major career preference among Indian youth because of job stability, fixed service rules, long-term benefits and opportunities to contribute to public administration. Recruitment drives such as the Rozgar Mela are therefore closely watched by job aspirants and their families.

PM’s Message to New Recruits

During earlier Rozgar Mela programmes, Prime Minister Modi has highlighted the importance of youth participation in India’s growth and development. He has said that the country’s young population, technology capabilities and expanding international partnerships can create new opportunities for employment, innovation and skill development.

In a previous address to newly appointed candidates, the Prime Minister said the world was looking at India’s youth and technological progress with optimism. He noted that India’s partnerships with other countries are aimed at creating opportunities, jobs, confidence and global exposure for young people.

The Prime Minister has often urged new government employees to work with commitment, transparency and a public-service mindset. He has also stressed the need for officials to use technology, improve service delivery and ensure that government schemes reach citizens effectively.

Nationwide Programme

The 20th Rozgar Mela will bring together selected candidates from across India, with programmes being held at 45 locations. The virtual format will allow the Prime Minister to address appointees simultaneously while local representatives and officials participate in the respective events.

The programme is expected to be significant for candidates who have secured appointments in different government departments after completing the recruitment process. It will also underline the government’s effort to fill vacancies and expand employment opportunities within public institutions.

As more than 51,000 young candidates prepare to receive their appointment letters, the 20th Rozgar Mela is set to become another major milestone in the government’s nationwide recruitment campaign.
