The Delhi University Students’ Union, or DUSU, Election Result 2026 is expected to be announced today, September 19, after the completion of vote counting. Counting of votes began at 8 am at Delhi University’s North Campus.
The election will decide the new office-bearers for the 2026–27 academic session. The central panel includes four key positions—President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary.
More than 1.51 lakh students were eligible to vote in the DUSU election. The polling recorded a turnout of 40.46 percent, which is being seen as the highest voter participation in the last three years.
Key Contest for DUSU President’s Post
The presidential election has witnessed a major contest between the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, National Students’ Union of India and the AISA-SFI alliance.
ABVP candidate Yash Dabas is contesting for the President’s post, while NSUI has fielded Vijay Shankar Meena. The AISA-SFI alliance has nominated Ananya Raturi for the post. Ashmit Kumar Panwar from ASAP is also in the fray.
The result of the President’s post is likely to remain the most closely watched outcome of the DUSU election. ABVP and NSUI are considered the main contenders, while the AISA-SFI alliance is expected to make the contest more competitive.
Candidates for Other Key Posts
For the post of Vice-President, ABVP has fielded Ishu Maurya, while NSUI candidate Vir Chatrath is contesting against him. Akshat Shikhar is the candidate of the AISA-SFI alliance.
For the Secretary’s post, ABVP has nominated Riya Chhawadi, NSUI has fielded Namrata Chaudhary, and the AISA-SFI alliance has put forward Stanzin Deskyong.
For the Joint Secretary’s post, ABVP candidate Lakshyaraj Singh is in the contest against NSUI’s Gopal Choudhary and AISA-SFI alliance candidate B. Parijat.
The counting process will decide which student organisation secures control of the DUSU central panel for the upcoming academic year.
High Voter Interest in DUSU Polls
The DUSU election is considered one of the country’s most significant student elections. It often draws attention because several national political parties have student wings active in Delhi University.
ABVP is affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and is considered close to the Bharatiya Janata Party. NSUI is the student wing of the Congress party. AISA and SFI represent Left-leaning student groups.
This year’s election saw active campaigning across Delhi University colleges, hostels and campuses. Student organisations focused on issues such as hostel facilities, safety, transport, metro concessions, scholarships, fee-related concerns, library access and campus infrastructure.
For many students, the DUSU election is an opportunity to elect representatives who can raise concerns related to academic facilities, student welfare and campus life before the university administration.
No Victory Processions Allowed
The Delhi High Court has prohibited victory processions after the declaration of DUSU election results. The restriction applies to public roads, Delhi University campuses and hostels.
Candidates, supporters and student groups have been directed not to organise celebrations that disrupt traffic, public order or regular campus activities. The court has warned that violations may invite criminal action and contempt proceedings.
Security arrangements have also been put in place around the counting venue and major areas of the university campus to ensure that the result process remains peaceful.
College-Level Results Are Different
Several college-level student election results have already been declared across Delhi University. ABVP has claimed victories at a number of colleges, including Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Sri Aurobindo College (Morning), Dr BR Ambedkar College, Bharati College and Shivaji College.
However, these college-level results are separate from the main DUSU central-panel election. The DUSU result will decide the representatives for the entire Delhi University Students’ Union.
Students, candidates and political organisations are now waiting for the final results, which will determine the new leadership of DUSU for the 2026–27 academic year.
