Gangster Sandeep alias Kala Jatheri was brought from Delhi jail to his native Jatheri village in Haryana’s Sonipat district on Sunday after being granted custody parole to attend the naming ceremony and religious rituals for his twin daughters.
A Dwarka court allowed Jatheri to visit his home between 10 am and 5 pm under police custody. The court granted the parole for seven hours, though several reports described the effective time available at the residence as around six hours due to security and travel arrangements. He was required to return to jail after the stipulated period.
Jatheri arrived at his residence amid tight security, with Delhi Police and Haryana Police personnel deployed in and around the village. Family members had decorated the house for the ceremony, where traditional havan, yajna and naamkaran rituals were scheduled to be performed.
The custody parole was granted to enable him to meet his wife, Anuradha Chaudhary, and participate in religious ceremonies following the birth of their twin daughters around three months ago. The twins were reportedly born through IVF.
The court directed that Jatheri could meet only immediate family members and close relatives at his house under close police supervision. It also ordered him to bear the expenses related to the custody parole and deposit the amount with the jail superintendent in accordance with the rules.
The event drew attention after reports said villagers welcomed Jatheri’s arrival with drumbeats. Media access to the ceremony was restricted, while police maintained a security cordon around the house and surrounding areas.
Jatheri had earlier been granted a four-hour custody parole around the time of the birth of the twins to meet his wife and newborn daughters. He is currently lodged in a Delhi jail and faces multiple criminal cases.
