A technical problem on the Delhi Metro’s Violet Line disrupted services on Monday, causing congestion at important stations and irritation to passengers. A signaling problem at Central Secretariat Metro Station disrupted the line between Kashmere Gate and Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabhgarh), the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said.
According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)’s official X account, the failure led to a delay in train movement on the Violet Line, however, services on all other lines were regular. During the brief continuation of the disturbance, commuters at stations were advised to utilize other metro lines to travel.
The Central Secretariat Metro Station also was jam-packed with people waiting for the trains due to the delay. Other stations along the route also saw increases in rush hour as commuters shifted their travel plans. Metro workers asked travelers to be patient and keep calm until services were restored.
The DMRC initially reported the signaling fault at roughly 9:17 am. The problem took 12 minutes to fix and Violet Line services were back up and running. Operations resumed to normal gradually after an interruption of roughly 20 minutes in total. Passengers trapped by the delay were relieved once services restarted.
Commuters were hit, if only temporarily, particularly those going during peak times. The technological problem was inconvenient, but services were restored rapidly to minimize the damage. All other metro lines continued to run as normal during the incident, the authorities added.
One of the country’s biggest urban transit systems, Delhi Metro, is prone to massive passenger congestion even on account of little technological glitches. The chaos on the Violet Line on Monday again put the spotlight on the thousands of commuters who rely on the capital’s metro systems running smoothly.
Now that services have been restored, travelers are recommended to keep monitoring live updates from DMRC for any service related warnings in future. The rapid reaction by the metro operator helped guarantee the momentary hiccup did not become a prolonged operating concern.
