World Health Organisation (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shared an X post on Sunday, reporting that a WHO office in Kyiv was hit by debris from multiple overnight Russian strikes on Ukraine.
Sharing an image on the social media platform, he wrote “Last night @WHOUkraine office in Kyiv was hit by debris from one of many strikes in the city, damaging windows on the 3rd floor. This building is home to many UN agencies besides WHO. No one got injured. Multiple deaths and injuries have been reported so far from the attacks on civilian infrastructure over night. Attacks on health and civilians MUST STOP. We urge once again for a ceasefire. Peace is the best medicine.”
Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Kyiv, hitting residential areas, a school, and commercial buildings. At least four people were confirmed to be killed in the attacks. According to reports, more that 50 locations across the capital were hit.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksyy visited several damaged buildings on Sunday and said 69 people were injured in Kyiv alone. He also stated that a water-supply facility was attacked and the Chornobyl Museum was “effectively destroyed”.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko condemned the attack on the museum, calling it “a deliberate attack on history, memory, and truth”. The ministry shared footage and images of the aftermath, showing broken glass windows and scattered rubbles.
Emergency services were deployed across the city, extinguishing fires, clearing debris, and treating the wounded.
Regional head of Kyiv Mykola Kalashnyk described the attack as a “deliberate terror against peaceful people” and said that “emergency services are working in all places”.
A Russian strike near an air raid shelter at a school in the central Shevchenko district blocked its entrance with debris and trapped several people inside.
Moscow had previously warned of retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on Russian-occupied territories, which they claimed killed 18 people. However, Ukraine’s military denied targeting civilians.
