After weeks of speculation surrounding its future, Salman Khan’s ambitious patriotic drama Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace is officially back in the spotlight. The makers have finally put an end to rumours of an indefinite delay by unveiling a brand-new poster on July 20, 2026, confirming that the film is still on track for a theatrical release in 2026.

The announcement has come as a major relief for Salman Khan fans, who had been worried that the much-talked-about war drama had run into production hurdles. While the latest poster reassures audiences that the project is moving ahead, it has also triggered fresh discussion across social media and the film industry for an unexpected reason—the absence of the director’s name from the official credits.

Unlike most film posters, which prominently acknowledge the director, the latest promotional artwork simply carries the credit “A Film By Salman Khan Films.” The omission immediately caught the attention of fans and industry observers alike. Although the production team has not offered any explanation, reports continue to maintain that filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia remains the director of the project.

The latest development marks another chapter in the film’s evolving journey. Earlier this year, the project underwent a significant creative overhaul. Initially announced under the working title Battle of Galwan, the film was later renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace. Salman Khan personally revealed the new title on social media in April, signalling a broader thematic vision that extends beyond a battlefield narrative.

The film’s promotional material has consistently reflected that emotional shift. Earlier posters featured Salman Khan emerging from behind a blood-stained log wrapped in barbed wire, creating a powerful visual that highlighted both sacrifice and resilience. The official tagline—”A soldier’s promise. A family’s strength. A nation’s pride.”—suggests that the story will explore not only military heroism but also the emotional cost borne by soldiers and their loved ones.

At its core, Maatrubhumi draws inspiration from one of the most significant military confrontations in recent Indian history—the Galwan Valley clash of June 15, 2020. During the confrontation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Indian and Chinese soldiers engaged in intense hand-to-hand combat under extraordinary circumstances. The clash claimed the lives of 20 Indian soldiers, making it one of the deadliest border incidents between the two nations in decades and a defining moment in modern Indian military history.

Salman Khan takes on one of the most challenging roles of his career by portraying Colonel Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment. Colonel Babu lost his life while courageously leading his troops during the disengagement process in Galwan and was later remembered as one of the nation’s military heroes. The role marks a departure from Salman Khan’s larger-than-life action image, placing him in a more grounded and emotionally driven character inspired by real events.

Joining him is Chitrangda Singh, who plays the female lead, while Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia feature in pivotal supporting roles. The film’s music and background score have been composed by Himesh Reshammiya, whose collaboration with Salman Khan has produced several memorable soundtracks over the years.

Although the latest poster has answered one major question by confirming the film’s release timeline, it has simultaneously created another by leaving out the director’s credit. Whether this is simply a marketing decision or hints at a larger strategic move remains unknown. Until an official clarification arrives, speculation is likely to continue.

For now, however, the focus remains on the film itself. With its patriotic subject, real-life inspiration, and Salman Khan portraying one of India’s most respected military officers, Maatrubhumi is shaping up to be one of the biggest and most emotionally charged Bollywood releases of 2026. As promotions gain momentum, audiences will be watching closely to see how the makers bring this important chapter of modern Indian history to the big screen.
