Television actress Shilpa Shinde has come under intense criticism after reportedly admitting that her past sexual harassment allegations against ‘Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain’ producer Sanjay Kohli were fabricated. The revelation has triggered strong reactions within the entertainment industry, with filmmaker and FWICE chief advisor Ashoke Pandit condemning the misuse of such serious accusations.

Ashoke Pandit reacts strongly

Speaking to The Indian Express, Ashoke Pandit said that if Shilpa’s admission is true, it deserves strict condemnation. He emphasized that sexual harassment is a grave issue and should never be used as a tool for personal or professional vendettas.

He stated, “Sexual harassment is a very serious allegation, and using it as a weapon to settle disputes is deeply wrong.”

‘False accusations can destroy lives’

Pandit further highlighted the damaging consequences of false allegations, noting that they can irreparably harm an individual’s reputation, career, and mental well-being.

He also suggested that Sanjay Kohli may have chosen silence at the time to protect the show and the livelihoods of those involved, but added that such restraint does not justify false claims.

“What is even more worrying is that such actions make it harder for genuine victims to be believed. Every false accusation weakens trust in those who come forward with real experiences,” he said.

2016 controversy revisited

The issue dates back to 2016, when Shilpa Shinde exited the popular sitcom ‘Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain’ following a major fallout with the producers. At the time, she had accused Sanjay Kohli of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior during the show’s production.

However, Kohli, co-producer under Edit II Productions, had firmly denied all allegations.

Industry debate reignites

The controversy has reignited a broader debate on accountability, with many questioning whether public figures should face consequences for making false allegations, especially when such claims can undermine genuine cases of harassment.
