The case of Lohagad Fort in Pune has taken another dramatic turn, as the accused Siya Goyal allegedly provided detectives a fresh version of events in the murder of real estate mogul Ketan Agarwal. What started out as a suspected hiking accident has now snowballed into a full-blown murder case. Police have said that the crime was pre-planned and performed with the assistance of Chetan Chaudhary.

According to police testimonies reported by several publications, Ketan Agarwal, 26, traveled with Siya Goyal and others to Lohagad Fort on June 18 on what was first characterized as a birthday expedition. Siya reportedly informed police soon after the incident that Ketan slipped while hiking. That version lasted for a little while but detectives said inconsistencies in the accounts of witnesses, digital evidence and information from the family led them to reexamine the investigation.

The accused has reportedly confessed, a major breakthrough in the case. Police sources said that during interrogation, Siya and Chetan acknowledged to conspiring to murder Ketan, who was then shoved from the fort. The two had known each other for approximately a year, investigators claimed, and had plotted the crime when Siya reportedly decided she no longer wanted to marry Ketan.

The case has also gained attention because of the digital footprints and phone data authorities claim helped them put together the plot. It is said that detectives reviewed call records, GPS data, CCTV video and witnesses at the fort before finding that the accident hypothesis did not fit the facts. One article stated the investigation revealed thousands of calls and a tight time frame surrounding the journey that authorities think alludes to a planned operation.

Siya’s popular Instagram tale a day after Ketan’s death has put another dimension to the drama. In the post, she showed anguish and stated that he had left her on her birthday, which investigators now apparently believe was part of an effort to bolster the accidental-death scenario.

The victim’s father has gone public about the connection, and has suggested that his son may have been targeted once the engagement became troubled. He also expressed worry that the family may not have been provided the complete story before the accused was arrested.

Police said they are still investigating the motivation, the precise sequence of events and if anybody else was involved. Ketan, a young director in the family’s real estate company, was allegedly getting married. The case has sent shock waves across corporate circles in Pune.

With this unexpected twist, the Lohagad Fort tragedy has become one of the most carefully followed criminal probes in Pune, with every fresh confession by the accused now being matched with the concrete evidence gathered by police.
