Iranian media said on Sunday that the Unites States “offered no tangible concessions” in its latest response to the Islamic Republic’s proposal for negotiations to end the ongoing war in West Asia.
According to the Mehr news agency, “The United States, offering no tangible concessions, want to obtain concessions that it failed to obtain during the war. This will lead to an impasse in the negotiations.”
The Fars news agency reported that Washington listed five conditions, such as:
- Iran would only operate one nuclear site.
- It would transfer its stash of highly enriched uranium to the United States.
- Washington would not release “even 25%” of Tehran’s frozen assets abroad.
- There would be no compensation for the damages inflicted on Iran during the war.
- Hostilities on all fronts must end at the start of negotiations.
In its own proposal, Iran had called for the end of the war on all fronts, including Israel’s airstrikes on Lebanon, and a stop to the U.S naval blockade on Iranian ports. Fars also reported that the proposal said Tehran would continue to control the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry had also demanded the lifting of all U.S sanctions and the release of its frozen assets abroad during a press conference last week.
Spokesman of the Iranian armed forces Abolfazl Shekarchi cautioned U.S President Donald Trump against resuming attacks on the country.
According to state television, he said, “The desperate American president should know that if his threats are carried out, his country’s resources and military will be confronted with unprecedented, offensive, surprising and tumultous scenarios.”
Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Hamidreza Hajibabaei also threatened action against targeting Iranian oil infrastructure.
ISNA news agency reported him saying, “If Iranian oil is harmed, Iran will take measures that will prevent the United States and the world from accessing oil from the region for an extended period.”
