Actor Upasana Singh has finally revealed the story behind one of Indian television’s most iconic dialogues, “Kaun Hai Ye Aadmi?” The actress, who became a household name as the witty and outspoken bua on Comedy Nights With Kapil, shared that the famous line was never part of the script.

Speaking to Galatta Plus, Upasana recalled that the catchphrase was born during an episode featuring superstar Salman Khan. According to her, interactions with celebrity guests on the show were always unpredictable.

“We would prepare our portions like a play and know what we had to say. But we never knew what kind of interaction would happen with the guest star,” she said.

During a light-hearted exchange with Salman Khan, the dialogue came out naturally. However, the actress said that everyone on the set became anxious after she said it.

“Imagine Upasana Singh saying ‘Kaun Hai Ye Aadmi?’ to Salman Khan,” she recalled. “There were 14 cameras on the set and pin-drop silence. Everyone thought Salman would get upset, walk out, and our show would remain incomplete.”

But instead of getting offended, Salman had a completely unexpected reaction.

“Salman ji started laughing so much that he almost fell off the sofa. He kept laughing for four or five minutes,” Upasana said.

The moment turned out to be pure comic gold. After Salman’s reaction, the dialogue became a regular part of the show. Every celebrity guest who appeared on Comedy Nights With Kapil heard Upasana deliver the now famous line.

Its popularity soon went beyond the show. The signature line became a part of pop culture, and even T-shirts featuring “Kaun Hai Ye Aadmi?” were made.

Upasana also looked back with nostalgia on her long association with Kapil Sharma and the love she received for her character over the years. The actress said she remains open to returning to television in a similar comic role and would happily collaborate with Kapil again if the right character comes her way.

What began as an unscripted joke during a shoot with Salman Khan eventually became one of Indian television’s most memorable punchlines, proving that sometimes the best moments are the ones nobody plans.
