Keanu Reeves may soon be entering a brand-new cinematic universe one built entirely out of colourful bricks. According to recent reports, the Hollywood star is in talks to headline a new live-action LEGO movie being developed by Universal Pictures and The LEGO Group. The project is expected to be a hybrid of live-action and computer-generated animation, though plot details remain tightly under wraps.

The news has instantly generated excitement among fans, particularly because the film would reunite Reeves with filmmaker Josh Cooley, the Oscar-winning director of Toy Story 4. Their previous collaboration was widely appreciated, with Reeves lending his voice to the hilarious and lovable stuntman toy Duke Caboom in the Pixar blockbuster.

While Universal has yet to reveal what role Reeves would play, reports suggest that his involvement was significant enough to accelerate the project’s development. Industry insiders claim the actor was initially considered a long-shot choice, but once he expressed interest, the studio quickly moved forward with plans and brought Cooley on board.

The announcement is particularly important because Universal’s rights to the LEGO brand are reportedly nearing expiration. The studio acquired the rights in 2020 but has yet to release a LEGO film. Several directors, including Patty Jenkins, Jake Kasdan and Joe Cornish, had previously been linked to potential LEGO projects that never materialised. Reeves’ possible involvement now appears to have breathed new life into the franchise.

Naturally, fans have already started speculating about what the film could look like. Social media has been flooded with suggestions ranging from an action-packed adventure inspired by John Wick to a meta comedy featuring LEGO versions of Reeves’ iconic characters from The Matrix, Speed and Bill & Ted. Although no official storyline has been announced, the mere idea of Keanu Reeves in a LEGO movie has been enough to spark widespread curiosity.

The project also comes at a busy time for Reeves. The actor has several high-profile projects lined up, including returning as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and starring in upcoming films across genres. His career has continually evolved, moving effortlessly between action, comedy, animation and science fiction.

For now, the movie remains in its early stages and many questions remain unanswered. Will Reeves appear on screen or only provide his voice? Will it be an original story or feature familiar LEGO characters? One thing, however, seems certain: if the deal goes through, a Keanu Reeves-led LEGO movie could become one of Hollywood’s most unusual and eagerly anticipated projects.
