Iran Pokes Fun At Trump Over “Hell-Hole” Comment

Iran took a jab at US President Donald Trump after his controversial comment on social media, where he referred to India and China as “hell-holes”, while speaking about the current American birthright citizenship laws. Iran’s Consulate General in Mumbai took to X, sharing a video depicting Maharashtra’s rich cultural and geographical heritage, claiming a one-way trip to the state could be a “cultural detox” for the President.

“Maybe someone should book a one-way cultural detox for Mr Trump, it might just reduce the random bakwaas,” it wrote “Kabhi India aa ke dekho, phir bolna.”

Trump was at the receiving end of criticism after reposting a podcast of American political commentator and radio host Michael Savage, where he referred to India, China, and other countries as “hell-holes”. Savage accused people from the two countries of coming to the US to “drop a baby in the ninth month”, taking advantage of the United States’ birthright citizenship law.

Trump’s repost was considered to a be an endorsement of Savage’s racist tirade.

India had condemned the remarks, calling them “uninformed, inappropriate, and in poor taste”. However, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) insisted in a statement that the remarks “certainly do not reflect the reality of the India-US relationship, which has long been based on mutual respect and shared interests.”

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen the comments, as also the subsequent statement issued by the US embassy in response. The remarks are obviously uninformed, inappropriate, and in poor taste. They certainly do not reflect the reality of the India-US relationship, which has long been based on mutual respect and shared interests.”

The US embassy subsequently released a statement emphasising that Trump believes India is a “great” country led by a “good friend of mine at the top”.

The spokesperson for the US Embassy in New Delhi, Christopher Elms, said that the leader spoke warmly of India and praised his bond with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
