U.S President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Sunday that Iran had agreed to never have a nuclear weapon as part of the latest peace deal to end the ongoing war in West Asia. He also refuted reports that the United States was paying 300 billion dollars to Iran as reparations.
Trump wrote, “Iran has agreed to never have a Nuclear Weapon! Also, the story that the US is paying Iran 300 million Dollars is Fake News, put out by the Dumocrats!!!”
It must be noted that the recent media reports quote the figure as 300 billion and not 300 million, which was written in Trump’s post.
Vance praises Trump
Vice President JD Vance echoed Trump’s statement about Iran never having a nuclear weapon.
“The President has been clear from day one: Iran will never have a nuclear weapon,” Vance wrote on X
He further praised the President’s “efforts to establish peace” despite mounting criticism from opposing forces.
“Once again, President Trump’s efforts to establish peace have paid off for the American people, despite countless attempts to thwart it by people who hate America and President Trump,” he said.
Trump said on Monday after arriving in France for the G7 summit that Vance would attend a formal signing ceremony in Geneva later this week.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called the latest deal an “important step” towards ending the conflict but clarified that a final agreement to establish long-standing peace was yet to be negotiated.
United States to pay reparations?
Iran’s Mehr News Agency had cited sources which stated that Tehran’s delegation had demanded that Washington and its allies present reconstruction plans worth at least 300 billion dollars as part of the peace process.
According to Iranian media, the demand is part of a broader package that includes the release of 24 billion dollars in frozen Iranian assets during a 60-day negotiation period, with half of the amount made available upfront. The package reportedly includes the suspension of sanctions on Iranian oil and petrochemical exports and full access to Iranian financial resources held abroad.
However, Western media classified the 300 billion dollars as an international investment and reconstruction programme that the United States would help facilitate, possibly through private-sector capital instead of direct government reparations.
