A total of five people were killed in separate strikes by Ukraine in the Russian-controlled peninsula of Crimea and in the Krasnodar region of Russia.
The Russian-installed Governor of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov said on Sunday that Ukraine launched a drone attack on the peninsula, killing four people and injuring 28.
“As a result of the enemy’s drone attack on the Kerch peninsula, unfortunately, there are casualties among the civilian population,” he said.
He said in a separate statement, “Starting from 09:00 am, fuel sales at Crimean petrol stations have been suspended.”
Aksyonov said fuel stations across the region halted sales to businesses and the public and that the supplies were restricted to government agencies responsible for essential services and security.
Ukraine’s drone assaults on Crimea, which houses Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, have recently intensified, targeting the peninsula’s supply routes and triggering a fuel crisis with the onset of the holiday season. This has been Kyiv’s biggest strike in the region in recent months.
Meanwhile, local authorities in the Krasnodar region said a Ukrainian airstrike on an oil transport facility killed one person on a passenger ferry and set an oil terminal on fire.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the strikes, stating on social media, “Last night, our long-range sanctions [long-range drone and missile operations] targeted the occupiers’ military logistics, oil industry, and air defence.”
“All of this is a just response to Russia’s brutal attacks against our people,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Military said it shot down 239 Ukrainian drones overnight.
A local power grid operator also reported outages in multiple areas after damage to electricity networks, while authorities suspendes ferry traffic across the Kerch Strait, which separates Crimea from Krasnodar.
Authorities also stopped traffic on the bridge between the two regions for more than nine hours, leading to the delay of 11 trains.
