Android Users Hit by X Link Bug as Shared Posts Refuse to Open

Android users around the world are facing a frustrating glitch in the X app that has made shared post links largely unusable for several days. Instead of opening the intended post, tapping on an X link often drops users back onto their timeline, homepage, or the last profile they were viewing, creating widespread confusion and complaints across social media platforms.

The bug has been reported widely on Reddit and on X itself, where users say the problem persists even after trying the usual fixes. Clearing the app cache, restarting phones, reinstalling the app and signing back in have all failed to solve the issue for many users. What makes the glitch especially annoying is that it affects a core function of the platform: opening shared content directly through links. For a service built around real-time conversations and reposts, that failure has quickly become a major usability problem.

According to early reporting by PiunikaWeb, the issue has been active since at least April 21, and the outlet was able to verify it directly through testing. In its checks, tapping on a shared X link on Android did not lead to the referenced post. Instead, the app sent users to the homepage or to content that had already been open previously. That behavior suggests a deep linking problem within the app rather than a simple device-specific error.

One workaround has emerged, though it is hardly convenient. Users say that fully closing the X app from the recent apps screen before tapping the link sometimes forces the app to open the correct post. Even so, the workaround is inconsistent and does not appear to solve the underlying bug. For many users, especially those who follow live news, entertainment updates or political posts through shared X links, the issue has made the app feel unreliable.

The problem has now reportedly persisted globally for around three days, yet X has not issued any official statement or fix. The company’s silence has only added to user frustration. X’s product head did appear to address the mood indirectly, joking that he had returned from a wedding to find the app “on fire,” but that lighthearted comment has done little to reassure users looking for a technical explanation or timeline for resolution.

India has not been spared. A large number of Indian Android users continue to report the same bug, indicating that the issue remains fully active in the country as well. Until X rolls out a proper fix, the safest option for Android users is to fully close the app before tapping shared links, though even that method is not guaranteed to work every time.
